The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, recently unveiled the logo for its 2026 Media Games and conducted the draws for the five-a-side football competition. The games are scheduled to take place from 5 to 9 October 2026 at the Agege Mini Stadium and the NUJ Secretariat in Lagos. This event aims to bring together journalists from different NUJ chapels and media organisations across Lagos State for a week of sporting activities, fellowship, and competition.
The 2026 Media Games will feature a range of indoor and outdoor events. Indoor events include table tennis, chess, Ayo, draughts, and Ludo, while outdoor events will feature five-a-side football and a 100-metre race. According to the NUJ Lagos State Council Chairman, Adeleye Ajayi, the games are designed to provide journalists with an opportunity to relax, interact, and compete outside their regular professional activities.
Speaking at the press conference and logo unveiling ceremony, Mr Ajayi emphasized the importance of the event in promoting unity, professionalism, teamwork, and excellence among journalists. He described the unveiling of the official logo as a significant milestone in preparations for the games, saying the design reflects the values the organisers hope to promote.
The Chairman of the 2026 NUJ Lagos State Council Press Week Committee, Ayo Ojedokun, highlighted the need for journalists to unwind, interact, and showcase their sporting talents. He said the games are intended to promote friendship, teamwork, healthy living, and stronger relationships among journalists. Mr Ojedokun also emphasized the significance of the logo in giving the competition a distinct identity and reflecting the values underpinning the event.
The football draws produced two groups each for the men’s and women’s competitions. In the men’s competition, Group A consists of Lagos Information, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and The Nation. Group B comprises Vanguard, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture (FMMC), Lagos Television (LTV), and The Guardian. In the women’s competition, Group A includes Lagos Television (LTV), Traffic Radio, FMMC, and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), while Group B consists of Lagos Information, Vanguard, The Guardian, and Voice of Nigeria (VON).
The organisers expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners, media organisations, and individuals who have contributed to the organisation of the event. They also called for additional support from corporate organisations, government agencies, media organisations, and individuals, assuring prospective partners of visibility and recognition during the games.
The 2026 NUJ Lagos State Council Press Week Committee has urged participating journalists to prepare adequately and uphold sportsmanship throughout the competition. The various events will form part of the week-long activities planned for the 2026 NUJ Lagos State Council Press Week, which aims to promote camaraderie and healthy competition among journalists.
