The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Mr. John Boadu as its National Chairman, with Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong retaining his position as General Secretary. The election took place during the party's National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The conference brought together party members to elect new national officers to lead the party for a four-year term.
Mr. Boadu polled 2,888 votes to secure the chairmanship, defeating Mr. Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, who obtained 2,408 votes. Other contestants, including former National Chairman Paul Afoko and Mr. Samuel Kenneth Adolphus Ben Crabbe, secured 790 and 41 votes, respectively. The election, which lasted nearly 20 hours, also included constitutional amendments.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Boadu called for unity and extended a hand of fellowship to his fellow contestants. He emphasized that the ideas, experience, networks, and commitments of all candidates were vital to strengthening the party. Mr. Boadu stated that there must be no winners and losers, only one united NPP around one purpose.
Mr. Boadu outlined the new leadership's focus on rebuilding the party from the grassroots, strengthening constituency structures, and adapting to changing political and social conditions. He pledged to collaborate with regional executives, Members of Parliament, the Minority Caucus, party patrons, and other organized groups. The new chairman also promised greater engagement with young people, social media practitioners, and traditional media.
The party's new leadership will prioritize strengthening its financial foundation, particularly at the constituency level, while engaging businesses to advance enterprise-friendly policies. Mr. Boadu noted that political victory is never an entitlement, but rather earned through service, organization, credibility, and the trust of the Ghanaian people. He emphasized that the party's work begins now.
Other executive contests saw Mr. Kojo Fosu Boadu emerge as First Vice Chairman with 3,160 votes, while Mr. Henry Nana Boakye and Mr. Nana Akomea secured 3,061 and 2,987 votes, respectively. Mr. Kodua Frimpong retained the General Secretary position with 4,486 votes. Other elected officials include Mr. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover as National Organiser and Mr. Alfred Kojo Thompson as National Treasurer.
The new executive committee assumes leadership as the NPP begins preparations for the 2028 General Election. Mr. Boadu urged party members to prioritize the collective interest of the party over personal ambitions. He emphasized the need for unity, service, organization, and hope, as the party moves forward. The elected officials will lead the party for a four-year term.
