Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North Central Zone have reaffirmed their commitment to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 General Elections. This decision was made after a closed-door meeting held in Abuja, coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including governors, members of the National Assembly, and political appointees from the zone.
The APC North Central Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed that the stakeholders had resolved to work together to secure the re-election of Tinubu and Shettima for a second term. According to Yilwatda, the stakeholders are united in their support for Tinubu due to his contributions to Nigeria and the North Central Zone, particularly in terms of projects, appointments, and inclusive governance. The stakeholders also agreed to hold a massive rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Saturday in support of Tinubu's re-election bid.
The rally, described as the "mother of all rallies," is expected to be attended by governors, National Assembly members, ministers, and other APC stakeholders. The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, will be the Special Guest of Honour at the event. Yilwatda added that the stakeholders have agreed to mobilise supporters for the event, which aims to showcase their solidarity with Tinubu's re-election bid.
During the meeting, the stakeholders also observed a minute of silence in honour of the victims of recent incidents in Ondo State, Niger, and Benue. They expressed condolences to the families of Air Force personnel and civilians who lost their lives in the aircraft crash in Ondo State, as well as miners who died in Niger and victims of a boat mishap in Benue.
In addition to the rally, the stakeholders agreed to organise medical outreaches in some North Central states. This initiative aims to provide medical attention to vulnerable people in the communities. A reconciliation committee will also be established to address grievances and wounds that arose during the course of the primary elections and congresses.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including the SGF, Sen. George Akume; governors of Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa states; the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro; and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. Other attendees included members of the National Assembly and political appointees of the Tinubu administration from the zone.
The endorsement of Tinubu's re-election bid by the North Central APC stakeholders is a significant boost to his campaign. The massive rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, is expected to draw attention to Tinubu's achievements and his plans for the country. The stakeholders' commitment to supporting his re-election bid is a testament to their confidence in his leadership.
