NIPCO Group, a leading integrated energy and infrastructure company in Nigeria, is evaluating a proposed Floating LNG initiative. The company has been conducting preliminary technical, commercial, and feasibility assessments for nine months. The project aims to harness Nigeria's abundant natural gas resources. NIPCO has over 22 years of operational experience with an unblemished record. The company is currently led by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIPCO Gas Ltd, Nagendra Verma.

The proposed FLNG project represents a strategic expansion into LNG for NIPCO, marking its entry into the LNG sector. The project is expected to be a significant investment of over $3 billion. Verma announced the development in Abuja, stating that the project will be located in either the Escravos region of Delta State or Akwa Ibom. The location will be determined after the ongoing feasibility study. The project aims to facilitate access to upstream gas resources, LNG processing, and marine transportation.

The proposed FLNG project is expected to have an LNG production capacity of approximately 3 million tonnes per annum. However, this is subject to the outcome of ongoing studies, project economics, regulatory approvals, and final investment decisions. The project will comprise an FLNG facility along with associated marine and export infrastructure. It has the potential to serve both international LNG markets and growing domestic LNG demand.

NIPCO is currently undertaking a comprehensive evaluation of the project. This includes assessing upstream gas supply and reserves, FLNG technology and configuration, and LNG production capacity. The company is also evaluating marine and export infrastructure, domestic LNG supply opportunities, shipping and logistics requirements, project economics, and financing structure. Environmental and regulatory requirements, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning strategy are also being considered.

The project development status was discussed by Verma, who stated that the company expects to complete the feasibility study in a few months. After completion, the project configuration, investment requirements, development schedule, and implementation structure will be further defined. The proposed capacity, investment value, configuration, and timeline remain subject to completion of feasibility and technical studies, commercial evaluation, regulatory approvals, financing arrangements, and final investment decision.

The FLNG project will be a significant investment in Nigeria's energy sector. The company has assembled a team to oversee the project, including Chief Bestman Anekwe, Alhaji Abdulkadir Aminu, and Paul Chukwuma Obi, SAN. The project aims to reinforce NIPCO's long-term commitment to the development and monetization of Nigeria's natural gas resources. The company believes that the project will have a positive impact on the country's energy sector.

NIPCO's proposed FLNG project is expected to create opportunities for growth and development in Nigeria's energy sector. The company is committed to ensuring that the project is executed in a responsible and sustainable manner. With a final investment decision expected in a few months, NIPCO is poised to make a significant contribution to Nigeria's energy landscape.
