The newly installed Sege Mantse, Nene Nakom Namli V, has called on the people of Sege to unite and work together to drive the development of their community. In his first message following his installation, he emphasized that the progress of Sege required the collective efforts and cooperation of its people. Nene Namli V, known in private life as Mr. Godfred Kojo Nakom, said he had been chosen to serve the people and was prepared to work with the kingmakers and the entire community to fulfil the responsibilities of the Sege Stool.
Nene Namli V was installed on August 30, 2026, at the Namli Stool Room at the ancestral Nakom Wem at Sege Nakomkope. His selection and installation were conducted in accordance with the customs, traditions, and established practices governing the Sege Stool, as confirmed by a resolution signed by the kingmakers and adopted at a meeting on August 28. The kingmakers who signed the resolution included Nomo Augustus Lomotey Amlalo, Yomo Manye Esther Kwablah, Nomo John Tetteh Kabutey Narh, and Nomo Daniel Dornu Nartey.
The installation ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including the Stool Father, the Namli fetish priest and priestesses, and the Asafoatse of Akpotosu. As part of the customary rites, Nene Namli V was confined in the stool room before swearing an oath to the Namli Black Stool. A ram was subsequently slaughtered as part of the rites, and a procession was held from Nakomkope to Sege Junction to mark the occasion.
The installation of Nene Namli V comes after a longstanding dispute over the Sege Stool, which had been taken to various traditional and judicial bodies. On August 24, 2026, the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs unanimously allowed an appeal in Suit No. NHC.1/GAR/2024, setting aside the judgement of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and restoring the November 24, 2020 judgement of the Ada Traditional Council.
The dispute over the Sege Stool dated back to 2005 and involved issues such as the status of individuals who had claimed the chieftaincy, the recorded installation date of Nene Dame Agbewornu II, and claims over possession of the Black Stool. The Ada Traditional Council had set aside a 2012 judgement, which had been obtained through fraud, and awarded GH¢5,000 in costs against the defendants. The National House of Chiefs also awarded GH¢5,000 in costs in favour of the appellants.
A certified letter from the National House of Chiefs confirmed that a certified true copy of the proceedings of the August 24 sitting had been released to the lawyers. The reasoned judgement was to be obtained from the Registrar. This development has paved the way for Nene Namli V to assume his role as the Sege Mantse.
As the newly installed Sege Mantse, Nene Nakom Namli V faces the challenge of uniting the community and driving development in Sege. With his commitment to working with the kingmakers and the entire community, he is expected to bring stability and progress to the area.
