The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced temporary traffic diversion and movement restrictions across designated parts of Lafia, ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The rally is expected to coincide with the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state capital. This event is anticipated to attract government officials, political leaders, party supporters, and other dignitaries from across the country.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, explained that the measures are part of comprehensive security and traffic management arrangements. These arrangements aim to ensure the safety of the President, his entourage, rally participants, and members of the public. The temporary restrictions will affect designated routes, adjoining roads, and strategic locations within Lafia metropolis.

The restrictions are intended to facilitate the movement of the presidential convoy and ensure effective crowd control. The Command has advised motorists, commercial tricycle operators, motorcycle riders, and other road users to cooperate with security personnel, obey traffic regulations, and follow directives at designated diversion points. This cooperation is crucial for the smooth execution of the event and the safety of all involved.

Commuters have been urged to plan their journeys ahead of time, allowing for possible delays and using alternative routes as directed by security operatives. Business owners, transport operators, and residents within the affected areas have also been advised to make necessary arrangements for their daily activities ahead of the temporary restrictions. This will help minimize disruptions and ensure a peaceful event.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, has appealed to residents to remain calm, exercise patience, and cooperate with security personnel throughout the period. He particularly cautioned against unnecessary movement around restricted areas, urging everyone without legitimate business at the rally venue and designated security zones to stay away. This appeal aims to prevent potential conflicts and ensure public safety.

The Commissioner also called on political stakeholders and supporters of different political parties to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions capable of disrupting public order. The statement further urged opposition parties and other political groups to respect the rights of others and uphold peaceful political participation throughout the event. The police aim to maintain a neutral stance and ensure that all parties can participate peacefully.

The Command assures the public that adequate security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations across the metropolis to maintain law and order, manage traffic, protect lives and property, and ensure the peaceful and successful conduct of the Presidential campaign rally. The police also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, unattended objects, or other security concerns to the nearest police station.
