Residents and business operators at Mzimba Boma in Malawi have expressed gratitude to the government for upgrading the local roads to bitumen standards. The upgrade, which was carried out by Unik Construction Company, was contracted by the government last October. The project aimed to address concerns from residents about the poor condition of the roads, which were affecting mobility, especially during the rainy season.

The upgraded roads have had a positive impact on transport operators in the area. According to Walinase Gondwe, a taxi operator, the improved road conditions have reduced vehicle breakdowns and fuel consumption. This has enabled transport operators to make more trips and improve their earnings. Gondwe noted that previously, they used to spend a lot of money repairing vehicles because of potholes.

Business operators in the area have also benefited from the improved roads. Daniel Dokoya, who operates a welding and fabrication shop at the boma, said that the upgraded roads have enabled suppliers to deliver goods and services on time. This has improved the overall efficiency of his business and enabled him to serve his customers better.

Residents of Mzimba Boma have also welcomed the development, citing improved access to education and other essential services. Edgar Mkandawire, a resident, said that they were facing challenges in the past when going to and from school due to the poor road conditions. The upgraded roads have made it easier for residents to access these services.

The District Commissioner for Mzimba District Council, Emmanuel Bulukutu, has expressed satisfaction with the project. He said that the roads, which cover 16 kilometres, have completely transformed the district’s outlook. Bulukutu further noted that the improved roads will help farmers to transport their produce to markets with ease and create more opportunities for communities to engage in economic activities.

Mzimba Perekezi legislator Fikani Ulunji Nyirenda has also commended the government for investing in road infrastructure. He said that the improved network was facilitating the movement of people and goods, and that the tarmac roads have transformed the appearance of Mzimba. Nyirenda added that the project demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving service delivery in the district.

The upgrade of the roads in Mzimba Boma is part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure in the country. The project has had a positive impact on the local community, and residents are hopeful that it will lead to further development in the area.
