The Medical Research Council (MRC) Uganda, a renowned centre of excellence in research, is seeking two experienced Senior Laboratory Technologists to join its team in Entebbe, Uganda. The MRC Uganda is part of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), a partnership that aims to boost research capacity in Africa and globally. The successful candidates will play a crucial role in supervising and performing laboratory tests, reviewing and reporting results, and implementing study analytical plans.
The Senior Laboratory Technologists will be responsible for supervising laboratory tests, evaluating and validating assay development, and contributing to the development of laboratory analytical plans and standard operating procedures. They will also assist in capacity building by demonstrating practical procedures to new staff and student attachments. Additionally, they will ensure equipment maintenance is done according to the prepared and approved schedule, and comply with laboratory standards such as ISO 15189, GCLP, HSP, GCP, and GDPR.
The ideal candidates should possess a Master's degree in a biomedical science-related area or a Bachelor's degree in laboratory technology/sciences/biological sciences/physics with relevant experience. They should have experience in managing laboratory staff in a high-volume research laboratory, PBMC sample processing and storage, running ELISPOT assay, ELISA, and statistical analysis of laboratory data. Previous experience in working in a laboratory clinical trials environment, managing and supporting different teams, and linkage with external regulatory agencies is also required.
The Senior Laboratory Technologists will be responsible for line management of Laboratory Technologists and interns, ensuring staff are enabled to perform their assigned duties, and their professional development is nurtured.
