Vivo Energy Uganda and MTN MoMo have introduced a new promotion called Fuel Happy Hour, which allows motorists to save 20% on fuel purchases made at Shell service stations using MTN MoMo between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. The campaign aims to encourage digital payments and offer motorists greater value amid rising economic pressures. The promotion was officially launched on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Shell Kitetika service station in Kampala.
To benefit from the promotion, motorists are required to pay for their fuel using MTN MoMo during the designated hour. Eligible transactions will attract 20% cashback, subject to the campaign's terms and conditions. The promotion will run every weekday between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at participating Shell outlets across the country where MTN MoMo payments are accepted. This partnership brings together MTN MoMo's digital payments platform and Vivo Energy Uganda's network of Shell-branded service stations.
Alex Tusingwire, the Retail Manager at Vivo Energy Uganda, stated that the promotion is part of the company's efforts to reward customers and improve their experience at Shell service stations. He emphasized that Vivo Energy Uganda is committed to continuously creating value for its customers while delivering quality products and services that Shell is known for worldwide.
Tusingwire also highlighted that the partnership would make fueling at Shell more rewarding while helping customers manage their daily mobility costs. Keith Tukei, the Chief Commercial Officer of MTN MoMo, noted that the initiative aims to make digital payments more attractive by linking everyday transactions to tangible financial benefits. He encouraged motorists to use MTN MoMo when purchasing fuel to benefit from the cashback offer, emphasizing that the ambition is to make digital payments an effortless part of everyday life.
The partnership between Vivo Energy Uganda and MTN MoMo seeks to expand the use of mobile money in everyday transactions. Vivo Energy Uganda markets and distributes Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in the country, offering a range of products and services, including fuels, lubricants, liquefied petroleum gas, and other energy solutions for individual and commercial customers.
The Vivo Energy Group operates across several African markets, the Indian Ocean Islands, and Jordan, with a network of more than 4,200 service stations in 29 markets under the Shell and Engen brands. With this promotion, motorists can enjoy convenience and value when purchasing fuel at Shell service stations using MTN MoMo.
