A team from the Société de Gestion des Ouvrages du Haut Bassin du Fleuve Sénégal (SOGEOH), part of the Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du Fleuve Sénégal (OMVS), visited Dinguiraye from October 28-31, 2026. Led by SOGEOH Director General Serigne Sambou NIANG, the mission aimed to identify potential sites for a 100 MWc solar power plant and a 225 kV electrical interconnection post. The project is part of the OMVS 2040 Green Corridor Program.
The mission was received by Prefect Colonel Ousmane DIALLO, who provided a warm welcome. The prefect mobilized local authorities and technical services to facilitate the site identification process. After conducting field investigations, a 200-hectare site in Safé, about 8 km from the city center, was identified as suitable for the solar power plant and electrical interconnection post.
An additional 10-hectare site in Helayabhe, 7 km from the city, was also identified for a mini solar power plant with a capacity of 5-10 MW. This smaller plant could enhance electricity supply to Dinguiraye while awaiting the larger project. The mission received support from local administrative, communal, customary, and religious authorities.
During the visit, the delegation sensitized the local population to the project's importance and expected benefits. They also prayed for the project's success at the Elhadj Oumar TALL mosque. SOGEOH's Director General praised the collective mobilization, highlighting the project's potential as a lever for energy integration, territorial development, and improved access to electricity.
The project aims to make Dinguiraye a new hub for solar production and electrical interconnection, serving Guinea's development and regional energy integration. The mission marked the first step in preparing for the project's implementation. Local authorities and residents expressed enthusiasm for the initiative.
The OMVS 2040 Green Corridor Program seeks to promote energy integration and sustainable development in the region. The program's success is expected to improve living standards and economic opportunities for local communities. SOGEOH reaffirmed its commitment to making the program a success.
The identified sites will be further assessed and prepared for the construction of the solar power plant and electrical interconnection post. The project's implementation is expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Dinguiraye and surrounding areas.
