On October 28, King Mohammed VI chaired a working session to review progress on the Nador West Med industrial and port complex and the expansion of the Tangier Med port complex. The session included the launch of the Tangier Med 3 project, aimed at enhancing Morocco's port capacity on the Mediterranean. This new project focuses on boosting the existing Tangier Med port's capabilities, solidifying its position as a key logistics and industrial hub in the region.

The new Tangier Med 3 port will be located west of Tangier Med 2 and feature 1,200 meters of quay with an additional capacity of 4.5 million containers per year. The project has an estimated investment of approximately 8 billion dirhams. A concession agreement was signed with Maersk-APM, a global leader in maritime transport, to develop the new container terminal. This launch complements ongoing expansions at the passenger and international truck ports, as well as the eastern expansion of Tangier Med 2.

The Tangier Med port complex is expected to reach a total capacity of 20 million containers once these projects are completed, positioning it among the top 10 ports globally. The complex's expansion aligns with Morocco's strategic vision to enhance its port infrastructure and strengthen its competitiveness in the Mediterranean and international markets. The project is also expected to create new job opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region.

The Tangier Med 3 project is part of a broader royal vision that combines national growth with regional development. The initiative aims to distribute public investment effectively, mobilize private capital, and create promising prospects for employment. King Mohammed VI emphasized the need for the project's economic and social benefits to be shared by all concerned regions and directly benefit local populations.

The King also called for the acceleration of tailored training programs to meet the needs of emerging activities, facilitating the professional integration of young people and enhancing job opportunities linked to port, logistics, and industrial activities. This approach seeks to maximize the project's positive impact on the local community and the national economy.

The expansion of the Tangier Med port complex is a strategic move to reinforce Morocco's position as a major player in the Mediterranean and global trade. The project is expected to increase the country's attractiveness to foreign investors and strengthen its competitiveness in the region. The successful implementation of the Tangier Med 3 project will be crucial in achieving these objectives.

The launch of the Tangier Med 3 project marks a significant milestone in Morocco's efforts to modernize and expand its port infrastructure. The project's success will depend on effective collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as the government's ability to address potential challenges and ensure the project's timely completion.
