The Mauritian Ministry of Education and Human Resources has announced that applications are open for four Commonwealth master's scholarships to study in the UK in 2027. The scholarships, which cover airfare, tuition fees, and a living allowance, are available to qualified Mauritian students. Interested candidates must submit their applications to the Ministry of Education by October 9, 2026, at 14:00. The scholarships are for full-time master's programs lasting one year, starting in September or October 2027.

To be eligible, applicants must meet specific academic requirements, including a School Certificate with credits in at least five subjects, including English, obtained in a single session. Alternatively, candidates can have a Higher School Certificate with three main-level subjects and a pass in the General Paper, or an equivalent qualification. A first university degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours is also required. The application package must include more than just certificates, with a detailed study plan of at least 750 words and a statement demonstrating the program's relevance to Mauritius' development.

Applicants must choose one of six themes: science and technology for development, public health and health systems, innovation and entrepreneurship, peace, security, and governance, resilience to crises, and access, inclusion, and equal opportunities. They must also identify up to three Sustainable Development Goals related to the expected impact. It is recommended that applicants indicate three preferred British institutions and submit parallel admission requests to these universities.

A nomination by Mauritius does not guarantee final selection, which is the responsibility of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Scholarship recipients must commit to returning to Mauritius immediately after their studies and working in the public or private sector for at least two years. The application forms are available at the Scholarships Section, MITD House, Pont-Fer, Phoenix, and on the Ministry's website.

The application deadline is October 9, 2026, at 14:00, and submissions should be made to the Scholarships Section on the first floor of MITD House, Pont-Fer, Phoenix. Applicants must include certified copies of diplomas, transcripts, and other required documents, as missing pieces can lead to elimination. The scholarships cover airfare, tuition fees, examination fees, and a living allowance.

The six themes available for the Commonwealth scholarships align with development priorities, offering opportunities for students to contribute to Mauritius' growth in areas such as health, technology, and entrepreneurship. By selecting one of these themes, applicants can demonstrate their commitment to making a positive impact in their home country.

With four scholarships available, competition is expected to be high. Qualified students are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria carefully and submit their applications well before the deadline. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to pursue a master's degree in the UK, enhancing their skills and knowledge to contribute to Mauritius' development.
