Selven Iyempermal, a 34-year-old man from La Caverne No. 2, Vacoas, Mauritius, was fatally attacked at his home on Tuesday evening. The victim, also known as "Belo," succumbed to his injuries early Wednesday morning. According to reports, six individuals, their faces hidden, stormed his residence, beating him with telescopic batons, a sword, and a baseball bat.

The victim was with a friend when the attack occurred. His friend attempted to intervene and was also severely beaten. He received medical attention and was later released. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack, with a possible connection to a drug-related dispute. The friend has identified two of the six suspects, and police are working to apprehend the perpetrators.

Selven Iyempermal's family is grieving his loss. His aunt, Lutcheemee Ramen, expressed her sorrow, recalling her nephew's childhood and upbringing. She described Selven as a tranquil and well-behaved child who grew up in La Caverne. The family had faced a previous tragedy when Selven's father passed away when he was just four years old.

Despite the challenges he faced, Selven's family remained close-knit during his childhood. His aunt mentioned that he grew up with their support and affection. Selven completed his education up to Form 5 and later pursued a career in plumbing. He eventually became a father of two boys but encountered difficulties, including struggles with substance abuse.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities have arrested several individuals and are examining their potential involvement in the crime. A sabre believed to have been used in the attack was discovered, and one of the center's staff members was questioned by the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT).

A witness to the attack provided crucial information that led the MCIT to focus on a group of anti-drug activists. An identification exercise is being planned to help investigators identify the perpetrators. The MCIT conducted a search at a center in La Caverne No. 2, Vacoas, seizing an additional sharp weapon and taking several individuals into custody.

Selven Iyempermal's aunt condemned the violent attack, emphasizing that justice should have been served through the law, not through violent means.
