Selven Iyempermal, affectionately known as Belo, was attacked at his home in La Caverne no 2, Vacoas, by a group of masked and armed individuals on October 27, 2026. He was rushed to the hospital and spent only a few hours in the intensive care unit before succumbing to his injuries on October 28, 2026. The victim's companion, Priscilla, described him as a kind person who had grown up in the same locality as her.
According to Priscilla, she and Selven Iyempermal had been inseparable since childhood, having grown up in the same area and shared many experiences together. They eventually became a couple and had two sons, aged 16 and 6. Priscilla mentioned that Selven Iyempermal had a difficult childhood, having lost his father at a young age and growing up with his mother in a struggling household.
Selven Iyempermal's friend, Ryker, shared that after his mother's death about a decade ago, Selven Iyempermal's life took a turn for the worse. He became involved with a bad crowd and struggled with addiction. Despite this, he remained a kind person and was very attached to his family and home. The family home held sentimental value for him, and he refused to leave it.
On the evening of October 27, 2026, a group of masked individuals broke into Selven Iyempermal's home while Priscilla was at her own residence. A violent altercation ensued, and the attackers demanded money from Selven Iyempermal before beating him. An eyewitness and friend of Selven Iyempermal reported that he too was beaten when he tried to intervene.
The police from the Divisional Supporting Unit (DSU) were called to the scene, but the attackers had already fled. Selven Iyempermal and his friend were taken to Victoria Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Selven Iyempermal succumbed to his injuries, including multiple wounds and significant blood loss. An autopsy was performed by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin.
Priscilla is trying to cope with the loss and ensure that her children are not severely impacted by their father's death. She mentioned that her younger son is not fully aware of the situation, and she is trying to shield him from the reality of the tragedy. However, her older son is struggling to come to terms with the loss, and Priscilla finds it challenging to see him in pain.
The police have initiated an investigation into the murder, and Priscilla is finding it difficult to accept that Selven Iyempermal is no longer with her. She expressed her feelings, stating that he will only live on in her heart from now on. The community is in shock, and the motive behind the brutal attack is still unknown.
