As the departure time draws near, the tension builds, and every minute counts. The freight area is a flurry of activity, with staff meticulously checking and loading luggage into the ship. "The safety of passengers and luggage is our top priority," Diouf emphasizes. Her phone rings constantly, with clients seeking assistance, such as finding space to transport vehicles to Dakar.
Diouf's day begins early, with a briefing at 8 am with all services to coordinate actions and address any issues. By 9:30 am, security checks are underway. "We never stop working on departure days," she admits. As head of the maritime link, Diouf is the primary point of contact for the ship's crew, handling issues such as embarkation, available space, and freight.
Diouf's role involves ensuring that all necessary documents are in order, including customs, gendarmerie, and police documentation, which is handed over to the ship's captain. She also oversees the loading of goods, which is subject to rigorous control. "Everything that enters the ship is recorded and verified," she explains.
Despite the challenges of the job, Diouf is undaunted, having started her career a week after the launch of the "Le Wilis" boat on November 11, 2005. She has developed a smooth working relationship with her male colleagues, who appreciate her competence and dedication. "We work in harmony, and nothing is complicated," she says.
One of the main challenges Diouf faces is obtaining parental authorization for minors traveling without their parents. She believes that this process should be facilitated, particularly for mothers, as it can be a significant constraint. Her commitment to her work and her ability to multitask have earned her the respect of her colleagues and superiors.
