Samson Ekata, 40, was arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly killing his 18-year-old girlfriend, who was eight months pregnant. The incident occurred in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. According to the police, Ekata and the victim had lived together for about a year before the incident. The suspect allegedly admitted to killing the young woman and claimed that voices in his head, including instructions from a dream, prompted him to act.

The Edo State Police Commissioner, Patrick Daaor, described the killing as horrific and expressed sadness over the death of the pregnant teenager. He credited community members with providing information that helped the police apprehend Ekata. Daaor assured residents that the suspect would face the full weight of the law and encouraged the public to share credible information with security agencies.

During an interview with journalists, Ekata claimed that he initially resisted the instructions to kill the victim because she was pregnant. However, he said that about two weeks later, he received the same instruction in a dream and subsequently acted on it. Ekata also claimed that the mutilation of the victim's body followed instructions from the same spiritual force.

Ekata allegedly mutilated the victim's body and attempted to remove her unborn baby. He told journalists that he severed the victim's breast as the spirit instructed him to do so. He further claimed that he transported the victim's body in a Toyota Corolla before dumping it by the roadside. The suspect denied having killed anyone before the incident.

The police are still investigating the case, and Ekata's account has not independently established the motive for the alleged killing. His claim that voices directed his actions also does not, on its own, establish a mental health condition or explain the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death. The suspect's allegations must be established through the legal process.

Commissioner Daaor urged parents to pay closer attention to their children's safety, particularly that of girls, warning that vulnerable individuals could be targeted by sexual predators and other dangerous people. He emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with security agencies to prevent such crimes.

Ekata remains accused of the alleged killing and will face the full weight of the law if found guilty. The case has sparked widespread concern and outrage, highlighting the need for increased awareness and action to prevent violence against women and vulnerable individuals.
