On November 4, Mali's Transition President, General Assimi Goita, presided over a ceremony at the Palace of Koulouba to hand over 15 vehicles to several structures under the Ministry of Defense and Veterans' Affairs. The vehicles, consisting of nine buses and six pick-ups, aim to improve mobility and logistical capabilities of the beneficiary services. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to strengthen the capacities of defense structures.
The vehicles will be distributed among several strategic structures, including the Social Service of the Armed Forces, the School of Non-Commissioned Officers of Banankoro (ESO), the Military Prytanée, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces (DIRPA), the Commandment of Special Operations (COS), the Directorate of Military Sports, the School of Staff, the Military Police, and the Directorate of Military Music.
The ceremony involved a symbolic handover of keys from President Goita to the Minister Delegate for Defense, General Oumar Diarra, who then transmitted them to the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Élisée Jean Dao. The new equipment is expected to facilitate personnel movements, improve service functioning, and optimize interventions in the accomplishment of their respective missions.
The vehicles are financed under the social works of the President of the Transition and the Fund for Support to Basic Infrastructure and Social Development Projects, established by Ordinance No. 2025-008/PT-RM of February 7, 2025. This initiative reflects the Transition authorities' commitment to supporting the Malian Armed Forces by providing them with equipment adapted to their needs.
The handover of these vehicles is part of the government's efforts to strengthen the national defense tool and improve working conditions for men and women engaged in national service. The Transition President's social works and the Fund for Support to Basic Infrastructure and Social Development Projects demonstrate the government's willingness to accompany the Armed Forces.
The beneficiary structures will use the vehicles to enhance their operational capacities, particularly in terms of mobility and logistics. This will enable them to better perform their missions and contribute to the country's defense and security. The Malian government has been working to improve the capacities of its defense and security forces.
The provision of these vehicles is a significant boost to the defense and security sector in Mali, and it demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting the Armed Forces. The Transition President's initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the operational capacities of the beneficiary structures and contribute to the country's stability and security.
