Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Seyi Makinde, has stated that Nigeria can be reset within four years if he is elected president in 2027. Speaking at the APM North-Central Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, Makinde emphasized that his proposed administration would focus on introducing a new security architecture, charting a new path for education, and rebuilding the economy through data, science, and logic.

He mentioned that the reset can be concluded in four years, citing the example of a former head of state who ended military rule and ushered in democracy within 10 months. The governor criticized the Federal Government's approach to tackling insecurity, particularly in the North-Central region. He questioned the planning behind the establishment of additional army divisions, saying he did not see provisions for them in the 2026 budget. Makinde emphasized that tackling insecurity requires proper planning and adequate budgetary provisions.
Makinde also expressed concerns about the impact of increased allocations to state governments on the living conditions of Nigerians. He noted that despite receiving more money from the federation account, the answer to whether it has translated to fighting hunger in society is no. This, he said, is a critical issue that needs to be addressed.
The governor shared his experience with Oyo State's finances, stating that the state had reduced its dependence on federal allocation after he assumed office in 2019. However, Oyo State is now back to almost 80 percent dependence on federal allocation due to the removal of subsidy. Makinde described this as "voodoo economics."
