Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has warned against the potential risks of ending the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission before the full implementation of UN Resolution 1701 and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory. Berri made these remarks during a meeting with German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Riem Alabidi Radovan, and her accompanying delegation.

The meeting, which took place at the Second Presidency in Ain El-Tineh, was also attended by the German Ambassador to Lebanon, Thomas Tsanayzen, and the Media Advisor to the Speaker of Parliament, Ali Hamdan. The discussions focused on the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as recent developments in the field, particularly Israel's continued aggression against Lebanon.

Berri emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and partnership between Lebanon and Germany, as well as the European Union, and continuing to support the Lebanese army in the face of the challenges the country is facing. He also stressed the need to complete the implementation of UN Resolution 1701 and end the Israeli occupation of Lebanese lands.

The UN Resolution 1701, adopted in 2006, aims to bring an end to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The resolution established the UNIFIL mission to monitor the ceasefire and assist the Lebanese government in maintaining stability in the region. However, despite the resolution's adoption, the Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory has continued, and the situation remains volatile.

Berri's warning comes amid concerns that the UNIFIL mission may be ended without a clear plan for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory. The Speaker of Parliament emphasized that such a move would be a "mistake" and would have serious consequences for the stability of the region.

The German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Riem Alabidi Radovan, expressed her country's commitment to supporting Lebanon and the Lebanese people in the face of the challenges they are facing. She also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Germany and Lebanon in various fields.

The meeting between Berri and the German delegation highlighted the need for continued international support for Lebanon, particularly in the face of the ongoing Israeli aggression. The Speaker of Parliament thanked the German government for its support and reiterated the importance of strengthening ties between Lebanon and Germany.
