Lebanon's Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Fouad Khazzaka, has called on students at the Ghana School of Law to commit to high ethical standards in the legal profession. He emphasized that Ghana's future peace and stability depend on their ability to uphold justice, integrity, and responsibility. The Ambassador made these remarks during a ceremony where the Lebanese Community awarded scholarships to eight brilliant students from the Ghana School of Law for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Ambassador Khazzaka highlighted Ghana's commitment to upholding the Rule of Law, which he believes is the foundation upon which societies and states are built. He stressed that the law serves as a safeguard of justice, liberty, and peace. The Ambassador also lauded the historic ties between Lebanon and Ghana, citing a shared belief in investing in young people to advance the fortunes of both nations.
The scholarship program, which has been in existence since 2012, has awarded similar scholarships to more than 600 students from various Ghanaian universities, including the University of Media, Arts and Communications, the University of Ghana, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The program has supported students in various disciplines, including law, journalism, public relations, film and television, language, and performing arts.
Ambassador Khazzaka encouraged the beneficiaries to pursue their studies with diligence, integrity, and determination. He emphasized that their education will prepare them to become lawyers, judges, and legal scholars upon whom Ghana's future will depend. The Ambassador also commended the Ghana School of Law for being a beacon in training legal professionals who contribute significantly to Ghana's democratic gains.
The Acting Director, People, Talent & Culture at the Ghana School of Law, Mrs. Louisa Condobery-Asamoah, thanked the Lebanese Community for their long-standing relationship with the institution. She made a passionate call for a review in the number of beneficiaries to support many more brilliant but needy students. A representative of the Lebanese Community, Naaman Ashkar, noted the need to promote Lebanese-Ghanaian cultural integration through educational programs.
One of the beneficiaries, Maame Ekua Otenewaa, expressed her gratitude for the scholarship, which she believes will help her receive the needed legal training to transform society when she becomes a lawyer. She acknowledged the Lebanese community's gesture of motivating students of law to strive for academic excellence and uphold the rule of law in Ghana.
In 2024, the program launched its official alumni network to pursue further humanitarian projects to support growing communities. The Lebanese Community's educational initiative reflects its firm belief in education as a catalyst for expanding knowledge towards development. The Ambassador's call to action emphasizes the importance of collective effort in strengthening the legal space through access to legal education.
