The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Lagos State is leading in the list of 10 states with the highest number of registered voters. According to INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash O. Amupitan, Lagos has 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano State with 6,570,276 registered voters. This was disclosed at the World Press Conference and National Stakeholders' Meeting Marking 100 Days to the 2027 general elections.

The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercises were conducted in three phases, with the first phase registering 2,611,266 voters from August 25 to December 10, 2025. The second phase, which ran from January 5 to April 17, 2026, registered 4,121,835 voters, while the third phase, which ran from May 11 to July 26, 2026, registered 3,867,997 voters. The total registration was 10,772,421, following the conclusion of Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) verification.

Kaduna State occupies the third position with 4,662,640 registered voters. Other states that made the top 10 include Katsina State with 3,876,051 registered voters, Rivers State with 3,736,434 registered voters, and Oyo State with 3,588,111 registered voters. Delta State has 3,525,988 registered voters, Benue State has 3,057,225 registered voters, and Ogun State has 3,037,981 registered voters.

Bauchi State is placed tenth with 3,012,547 registered voters. On the other hand, Ekiti State has the lowest number of registered voters, with 1,055,708, followed by Bayelsa with 1,200,691 registered voters. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ranks next from the bottom with 1,732,043 registered voters, followed by Yobe with 1,733,671 registered voters and Gombe with 1,768,566 registered voters.

According to INEC, male voters account for 53,528,218, representing 51.75 percent of the register, while female voters number 49,900,497, representing 48.25 percent. The age profile shows that the register is dominated by voters aged 35 to 49 years, who account for 43,265,946 voters, or 41.83 percent of the total. Voters aged 18 to 34 years number 29,777,578, representing 28.79 percent.

The INEC chairman also stated that the distribution of Phase 1 PVCs to all Local Government Centres will commence on October 9, 2026. He added that the Register of Voters for the 2027 general election is expected to be presented to political parties on December 15, 2026. Amupitan sought the prompt release of the remaining budget to ensure seamless execution of the remaining activities.

With 100 days to the 2027 general election, Amupitan said it's a call to action to ensure that the election isn't only successful but serves as a global benchmark for transparency, integrity, and peace. He also stated that 18 out of 22 registered political parties submitted 36 presidential/vice-presidential candidates, while 21 parties sponsored 1,313 candidates for the Senate and 3,547 candidates for the House of Representatives.
