The Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU-Ghana) and Ibis Styles Hotel have joined forces to intensify breast cancer awareness campaigns in Ghana. The initiative aims to promote early detection and improve treatment outcomes. According to Mr. Morgan Ayawine, General Secretary of ICU-Ghana, sustained public education and regular breast self-awareness are essential in reducing the impact of the disease.

The breast cancer awareness programme, organised in Accra, was part of efforts by the two institutions to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage early detection. Mr. Ayawine noted that although breast cancer remains a major health concern, early detection and timely medical intervention can significantly improve treatment outcomes and save lives. He emphasised that fear and stigma should not prevent women from accessing appropriate healthcare services.

Mr. Ayawine urged women to prioritise their health and seek medical advice whenever they notice unusual changes. He also encouraged men to support women by motivating them to seek medical advice and participate in appropriate screening programmes. Furthermore, he advocated for a broad-based awareness campaign to educate both men and women about the disease and the importance of early detection.

The ICU-Ghana General Secretary commended breast cancer survivors for their courage, resilience, and determination. He described them as an inspiration to others facing the disease, adding that their experiences demonstrate that hope remains even after a breast cancer diagnosis. Mr. Ayawine also stressed that awareness creation should not focus exclusively on women, as men can also develop breast cancer.

As the Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October drew to a close, Mr. Ayawine urged stakeholders to sustain public education and awareness initiatives beyond the month. He believed that continuous engagement, open discussions, and support for people affected by breast cancer are necessary to break the silence and challenge the stigma associated with the disease.

Mr. Ayawine emphasised that prioritising the health of individuals is crucial in building a nation. He stated that the country cannot continue to talk about development without prioritising the health of its citizens, who are the greatest assets of a nation. The ICU-Ghana and Ibis Styles Hotel collaboration aims to make a positive impact on breast cancer awareness and detection in Ghana.

The partnership between ICU-Ghana and Ibis Styles Hotel demonstrates a commitment to promoting breast cancer awareness and supporting those affected by the disease. By working together, the two institutions hope to make a significant difference in the lives of individuals and families impacted by breast cancer in Ghana.
