Human Capital Business Solutions, a boutique human resources consultancy, is seeking a competent and experienced Safety, Health, Environment & Quality Manager (SHEQ) for a client in the manufacturing sector based in Kampala, Uganda. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, leading, and continuously improving the organization's Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality management systems. The role requires ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, client, and organizational requirements while promoting a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, operational excellence, and quality assurance.
The SHEQ Manager will have various key duties and responsibilities, including developing and implementing the organization's SHEQ strategy, objectives, and annual improvement plans. They will provide leadership and direction on all SHEQ matters across the business and promote a proactive SHEQ culture. The manager will also advise senior management on SHEQ risks, compliance requirements, and performance improvement opportunities. Additionally, they will lead SHEQ committees and management review meetings.
In terms of safety management, the SHEQ Manager will develop and maintain Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ensuring compliance with national occupational safety legislation and industry standards. They will oversee risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safe work procedures, as well as lead investigations of accidents, incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences. The manager will also monitor the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
The SHEQ Manager will be responsible for health management, including developing workplace health programs and employee wellness initiatives. They will monitor occupational health risks and control measures, oversee medical surveillance and fitness-to-work programs, and ensure effective management of workplace health incidents and exposures. Furthermore, the manager will establish and monitor Environmental Management Systems, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and client requirements.
The SHEQ Manager will also oversee quality management, developing and maintaining Quality Management Systems (QMS) and ensuring compliance with ISO standards, client specifications, and internal quality procedures. They will monitor quality performance indicators and customer satisfaction levels, lead internal audits, and coordinate external certification audits. Additionally, the manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis processes.
To qualify for the position, candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Quality Management, Industrial Safety, or a related field. A Master's Degree in a related discipline is an added advantage. The ideal candidate will have at least 8-10 years of experience in Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality management, with at least 5 years in a managerial role. Experience in construction, manufacturing, energy, engineering, logistics, mining, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
