The High Authority of Communication (HAC) in Guinea has announced that the renewal of professional press cards for the period 2027-2029 is now open. In a statement released on 27 October 2026, the HAC informed journalists and media technicians that they must take necessary steps before the deadline of 30 November 2026. The HAC stated that currently valid press cards will be automatically renewed for journalists and technicians who have not changed their media outlet.

However, this automatic renewal does not apply to cases of death, which must be reported by the media outlet. Journalists who have changed employers are required to submit a dossier to the HAC president's secretariat, including an attestation from their new employer and a signed employment contract. Independent journalists must present contracts for purchasing articles from at least three different media outlets.

New applicants for professional press cards must also submit a complete dossier in accordance with the conditions set out in the organic law governing the HAC. Correspondents from foreign press outlets are required to submit their accreditation validation requests for 2027 before the deadline. The HAC emphasized that journalists and media technicians residing within Guinea can submit their dossiers to regional focal points and prefectural supervisors.

The HAC, led by President Boubacar Yacine Diallo, stressed the importance of adhering to the established calendar and reminded stakeholders that 30 November 2026 is the strict deadline for submitting all dossiers. The renewal of press cards for 2027-2029 will take effect from 1 January 2027. Journalists and media technicians are advised to take prompt action to avoid any disruptions.

The HAC's decision aims to update and regulate the country's media landscape. By requiring journalists and media technicians to renew their press cards, the HAC seeks to ensure that only qualified and accredited professionals are recognized. This move is expected to enhance the credibility and standards of journalism in Guinea.

The HAC has provided various channels for stakeholders to submit their dossiers, including regional focal points and prefectural supervisors. This decentralized approach is intended to facilitate the renewal process and make it more accessible to journalists and media technicians across the country.

The renewal of press cards is a critical process that affects the livelihoods of many journalists and media technicians in Guinea. The HAC's clear communication and specific deadline are intended to help stakeholders plan and prepare for the renewal process, ensuring a smooth transition into the new period.
