The Tinubu Movement for Sustainable Governance Foundation, also known as Tinubu Must Stay, recently held a town hall meeting and industrial training programme in Bayelsa state. The programme, themed “Empowering Nigerians for the Better,” brought together over 200 participants who received practical skills in soap making. This initiative is part of the foundation's effort to empower Nigerians and promote sustainable governance under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The Director of Media and Strategic Communication at TMS, Adebisi Adams, stated that the programme aimed to combine public engagement with practical economic empowerment. The event drew political stakeholders, community leaders, women, and youths to discuss economic reforms, entrepreneurship, grassroots development, and sustainable governance. This gathering reflects the foundation's commitment to fostering dialogue and skill development among Nigerians.
The TMS South-South Zonal coordinator, Ogio Bright Clement, emphasized that empowerment should go beyond political slogans. He urged participants to acquire marketable skills, supporting women to become economically independent and creating opportunities for communities to improve their livelihoods. Clement encouraged participants to take advantage of the vocational training, describing skills acquisition as a pathway to self-reliance.
During the programme, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, TMS National Coordinator and Chairman of its Board of Trustees, commended the Bayelsa chapter for combining civic engagement with human-capital development. He highlighted several federal infrastructure interventions in Bayelsa, including the Ogbia-Nembe Road and bridges, Oruma Rigid Pavement Road, and ongoing Nembe-Brass Road and rehabilitation works on sections of the East-West Road.
Ibrahim Said Uba, Director of Mobilisation and Membership, represented Abdullahi at the event. Uba cited road projects connecting various communities, arguing that improved connectivity could stimulate commerce and broaden economic opportunities. He emphasized the importance of policy consistency and sustained investment in development, as well as human-capital investment, encouraging participants to embrace vocational training, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
Participants raised concerns about access to Federal Government empowerment programmes, particularly for people living with disabilities and residents of rural communities. Victoria Okoto, a leader of persons with disabilities in Southern Ijaw, sought clarification on how vulnerable groups could benefit from initiatives such as the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme and the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme.
The programme concluded with a call to action for participants to utilize their new skills and for TMS coordinators in Bayelsa and other states to intensify grassroots engagement and strengthen unity within the movement. The foundation's initiative aims to equip young people with marketable skills, promote economic independence, and foster sustainable development in Nigeria.
