The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) has reported total assets of approximately N$223 billion. This significant figure was disclosed by Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare during the official inauguration of the GIPF's new regional office in Ondangwa. The office represents an investment of around N$99.4 million and aims to improve access to pension services for members, pensioners, annuitants, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders in northern Namibia.

The new office in Ondangwa is an example of decentralised service delivery and the government's commitment to strengthening public institutions. During its construction, the facility created 42 employment opportunities, with further jobs expected to be generated through operational support services. The GIPF currently serves about 115,000 active members and provides income security to approximately 58,400 pensioners and annuitants nationwide.

The GIPF has made significant investments in various sectors across Namibia, including housing, education, energy, and procurement financing. In the Oshana region alone, the Fund has invested more than N$466 million. These investments have supported the servicing of 5,014 plots and facilitated the delivery of 7,793 houses. Additionally, they have contributed to about 11,650 jobs through housing, land servicing, and related development projects as of the end of the previous financial year.

Renewable energy projects have also been a focus for the GIPF, with N$2.7 billion invested in this sector during the past financial year. These investments have contributed 162.75 megawatts to Namibia's electricity generation capacity. Furthermore, the Fund has invested N$665 million in agribusinesses, supporting food security, rural development, and employment creation.

The GIPF Board of Trustees chairperson, Penda Ithindi, announced the launch of the Pension-Backed Home Loan Scheme (PBHLS) in January 2026. This scheme aims to improve access to housing finance for active members. Eligible members can use a portion of their accumulated pension savings as collateral to secure financing for serviced erven, new homes, home construction, or renovations and extensions of existing properties.

The Pension-Backed Home Loan Scheme is available to members in both urban and rural areas, supporting homeownership and housing development while contributing to efforts to address Namibia's housing deficit. This initiative is part of the GIPF's broader strategy to enhance the well-being of its members and promote sustainable development across the country.

The GIPF's investments and initiatives demonstrate its commitment to supporting Namibia's economic growth and development. With its significant assets and strategic investments, the Fund continues to play a crucial role in the country's pension and development landscape.
