Ghana's government has decided to formally apply for membership in BRICS, a grouping of emerging economies, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Dr. Jaishankar expressed India's interest in expanding cooperation with Ghana in key areas, including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, mining, defense, railways, and digital technology. He noted that both countries face similar development challenges and can benefit from exchanging knowledge, expertise, and experience. The two countries have also signed agreements covering agricultural research and training and biodiversity.

Dr. Jaishankar welcomed Ghana's role in the African Union and ECOWAS, advocating for stronger cooperation between the two countries at the United Nations. He also called for closer coordination on reforms to the UN Security Council as Ghana and India seek to deepen their strategic partnership. This cooperation reflects the shared interests and goals of both nations.

Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed that the Cabinet of President John Dramani Mahama has decided that Ghana will join BRICS. He emphasized that joining BRICS will give Ghana economic options, diversify its base and partnerships, and allow for more cooperation within the Global South framework. This move is expected to strengthen Ghana's engagement with partners in the Global South.
