Geely Auto South Africa has introduced the all-new Coolray compact SUV to the local market. The vehicle is powered by a 128 kW 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and features a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to Jateen Daya, Head of Product & Strategy at Geely Auto South Africa, the Coolray "has proven itself globally as one of Geely's most important products." The Coolray is Geely's most widely exported SUV, sold in various markets worldwide.
The Coolray's engine produces 128 kW at 5 500 rpm and 290 Nm of torque between 2 000 and 3 500 rpm. The vehicle accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and has a claimed combined fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100 km. Four driving modes are available: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Adaptive. The Coolray's powertrain and performance features make it a competitive option in the compact SUV segment.
The Coolray measures 4 380 mm in length, 1 795 mm in width, and 1 609 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2 600 mm and ground clearance of 161 mm. The vehicle features MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear, along with electric power steering and ventilated front and rear discs. The Coolray can seat five passengers and offers 330 litres of luggage space, expanding to 1 054 litres with the rear seats folded.
The Coolray's design includes a vertical-slat grille, LED headlamps, and twin-pod LED taillamps. The Vanguard and Vertex derivatives feature a two-tone roof, while the flagship Vertex adds a rear wing with integrated side fins and "S" badging. The vehicle is available in five colours: White, Grey, Silver, Green, and Red. The Coolray's exterior and interior design elements contribute to its overall appeal.
The Coolray's cabin features a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard across the range. Depending on the specification, buyers may also get wireless smartphone charging, multi-colour ambient lighting, power-adjustable seating, a panoramic sunroof, and an electric tailgate. The vehicle's technology and convenience features enhance the driving experience.
Standard safety equipment in the Coolray includes ABS, EBD, ESC, traction control, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, tyre pressure monitoring, and ISOFIX anchor points. The Vanguard and Vertex models feature six airbags and a 540-degree panoramic camera. The Vertex derivative also adds a Level 1 ADAS package with various advanced safety features, such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
Geely Auto South Africa has not announced pricing for the Coolray, and interested buyers will need to contact the company or a local dealer for derivative prices. The Coolray's arrival in South Africa expands Geely's local portfolio, which already includes fully electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and petrol models.
