Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Minister of Mines and Steel Development, has emphasized the need for a strong partnership between Nigeria and the United States. Speaking at the Nigeria Moment, a Nigeria-US Strategic Dialogue in Lagos, Fayemi stressed that Nigeria must be treated as a strategic partner in the emerging world order. The Nigeria-US Strategic Dialogue was organized by the American Business Council in collaboration with the Heritage Foundation. The event brought together policymakers, business leaders, and strategic thinkers to reflect on the future of Nigeria-US relations. Fayemi commended the convener, Mr. Ayo Otuyalo, Managing Director of Prime Atlantic Ltd, for organizing the dialogue and bringing together high-level participants for the strategic conversation.
The conference featured Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State as the keynote speaker, alongside senior representatives of the Federal Government. These included the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Power, Engr. Joseph Tegbe; and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Dele Alake. Other notable attendees included former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia, and the Group Managing Director of UBA, Mr. Oliver Alawuba.
The US delegation included prominent figures such as James Carafano, Senior Counselor to the US President on International Engagement, and Ambassador Carla Sands of the America First Institute. Other attendees were Honourable Kimberley Reed, the first female Chairman of the US Export-Import Bank, and Admiral Paul Thomas of the US Coast Guard. The dialogue provided a platform for both countries to discuss and explore areas of mutual interest.
Fayemi's call for a strategic partnership between Nigeria and the US comes at a time when global relations are evolving.
