The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has clarified that evaluating the performance of hospitals and their capacity to provide practical training for medical students is the responsibility of the Medical Sector Committee. This committee, led by Dr. Ashraf Hatem, comprises senior medical experts in Egypt. The Ministry has emphasized that it does not have a vested interest in reducing the number of students accepted into any college nationwide.
According to Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Medical Sector Committee conducts on-site visits to assess training opportunities, human resources, and available facilities. Based on these evaluations, the committee makes decisions regarding the number of students that a university hospital can accommodate. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar noted that the management of the Port Said National University initially proceeded with the number of students accepted in the previous year.
The digital platform provided the necessary information, and subsequently, the committee convened to explore possible alternatives for the students. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar mentioned that any future increase in the number of accepted students will depend on the Medical Sector Committee's evaluation of the Port Said University Hospital's capacity to accommodate more students and provide additional training opportunities.
The spokesperson further explained that Port Said National University can also increase training opportunities if it provides regular placements in Ministry of Health hospitals through clear contracts, specified hours, and designated training days. He emphasized that the Medical Sector Committee will consider these possibilities when assessing the situation.
The primary objective of these procedures is to ensure that students receive suitable practical training opportunities. The decisions made by the Medical Sector Committee are based on evaluating available resources and capabilities, rather than any personal interests in reducing the number of accepted students. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar stressed that the Ministry prioritizes providing high-quality training for medical students.

For instance, 82 African universities are set to participate in the Cairo 2026 conference, which aims to promote academic and research cooperation. Furthermore, 27 Egyptian universities have been ranked in the Shanghai 2026 subject rankings, with two more universities included than in the previous year.
