Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini of Eswatini has emphasized the importance of education going beyond academic achievement to include building the character of learners. He made this statement during the 30th Anniversary and Speech and Prize Giving Day of Sifundzani High School. The event took place at the Tsembankulunkulu Hall, where Dlamini addressed the gathering.
According to Dlamini, education is not just about earning certificates but also involves shaping the minds and character of learners. He stressed that the country needs young people with knowledge, courage, and character who understand that leadership is about service. The Prime Minister highlighted that integrity should be taught early and practiced daily.
Dlamini pointed out that values such as transparency, accountability, responsibility, and moral courage are essential and must be taught. He noted that these values are not learned from books alone but also from what children see. Therefore, he called on parents, teachers, and leaders to be examples of the values they want children to follow.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of preparing learners for a changing world, particularly through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). He encouraged young people to think, create, innovate, and compete while remaining humble, compassionate, and responsible.
Addressing the learners directly, Dlamini urged them to take pride in who they are and not measure their worth by fashion, wealth, appearance, or applause. He encouraged them to respect their bodies, families, culture, and country while avoiding harmful company and dangerous habits.
Dlamini congratulated learners who received prizes for academic excellence, sport, leadership, and other achievements. He encouraged those who did not receive awards not to be discouraged, emphasizing that a prize is not the measure of one's destiny. The Prime Minister urged learners to work hard, remain focused, and make use of the opportunities available to them at school.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the future of Sifundzani High School is a shared responsibility between learners, parents, teachers, the governing body, and administrators. He called on all stakeholders to play their part in preserving the institution's integrity and ensuring that governance remains focused on excellence. Sifundzani High School marked 30 years of providing education of the highest quality.
