Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has distributed 100 operational vehicles to security agencies in the state. This move aims to strengthen security operations, enhance rapid response to emergencies, and improve the mobility of security personnel. The vehicles will be used by the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Security, and local security outfits.
Governor Oyebanji stated that the intervention is a significant step towards addressing the recurring demands by security agencies for vehicles to ease mobility and enhance operational efficiency. He also mentioned that the vehicles will support the eventual take-off of the proposed Ekiti State Police outfit. The governor charged the security agencies to increase patrols, strategic visibility, faster response, and spontaneous agility.
The governor pledged his administration's commitment to continue supporting the security agencies with necessary resources. He mentioned that the state government provides regular monthly financial support to all the agencies and will also increase the capacity of state-owned security institutions. Governor Oyebanji urged the security apparatus to remain vigilant, alert, and gallant at all times.
With the state's inauguration ceremony approaching and elections in four months, Governor Oyebanji emphasized the importance of collaboration among security agencies to ensure Ekiti remains safe and secure. He implored the intelligence community to utilize surveillance technological assets available in the state and work collaboratively in the interest of collective security.
Governor Oyebanji highlighted his administration's commitment to security since inception, which has led to Ekiti being selected as one of the most secure states in the country. He mentioned that the distribution of 100 security vehicles is part of numerous interventions in the security sector, including the distribution of patrol vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers, bulletproof vests, and helmets two years ago.
The governor acknowledged the efforts of community security initiatives, local vigilante groups, and traditional rulers in ensuring security at the grassroots level. He called on all stakeholders in the security circles to be genuinely involved in securing the lives and property of the people.
