The Ekiti State Government has announced plans to construct 1,500 kilometres of roads across the 16 local government areas of the state in collaboration with the World Bank under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project. This initiative aims to ease transportation challenges and improve connectivity across the state. Governor Biodun Oyebanji disclosed this information at a town hall meeting with stakeholders from Ekiti Central Senatorial District.
According to Governor Oyebanji, 235 kilometres of rural roads will be covered under the third phase of the RAAMP programme, which is expected to commence after the rainy season. He stressed that his administration remains committed to implementing promises made to the people during electioneering and annual budget consultations. The governor cited the volume of projects executed across the state as evidence of his administration's commitment to its social contract with the people.
Governor Oyebanji also expressed concern over recurring incidents of flooding and gully erosion in Efon, Aramoko, and Ado-Ekiti. He stated that the government has studied the causes and patterns of erosion across the state and is developing strategies to address the menace. The governor's administration has renovated 110 primary healthcare centres across the state and promised further interventions to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
The governor commended traditional rulers across the state for their roles in intelligence gathering and community vigilance, which have contributed to the reduction in security threats. He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people, citing his track record of keeping promises made during his previous term. Governor Oyebanji assured stakeholders that their requests would be considered in the 2027 budget.
Representatives of Ado, Ekiti West, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ijero, and Efon local governments commended the governor for prudent management of resources and an inclusive approach to governance. They praised the funding of Local Council Development Areas, which has helped bring development closer to the people. However, stakeholders made fresh demands, including the construction of more connecting roads and improved electricity supply.
The stakeholders also requested stronger healthcare and ambulance services, erosion control measures, provision of potable water, and the establishment of additional public secondary schools across the communities. Governor Oyebanji's administration has been working to address the needs of the people, and the town hall meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to make their voices heard.
