Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting to review the executive status of the "Greening Greater Cairo" project. The project aims to increase green spaces and convert vacant areas into green spaces. The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, Engineer Randa Al-Manshawi, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, and Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo.
During the meeting, Dr. Madbouly emphasized the importance of expanding planting and afforestation efforts on main axes and squares in new cities. He stressed the need for continuous maintenance and care of green spaces. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of preparing a model for afforestation works. This model will be prepared by specialized consultants and will include the selection of suitable tree and plant species.
Engineer Randa Al-Manshawi, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, stated that there is a focus on planting and afforestation of main axes and roads. The ministry is also working on preparing programs for the continuous maintenance and care of these works. She added that large public gardens are being established in several new cities. One example is a large garden and artificial lake in the New Obour City.
The meeting also included a review of designs and proposals for a Nile garden to be established on land in the new urban community in Waraq Island. The garden will include open green spaces, seating areas, pedestrian paths, and cafes. Officials from consulting offices presented their ideas for the project. They aim to create a green space that serves the community and improves the environmental and aesthetic situation in Cairo.
Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, reviewed a proposed plan for the "Greening Greater Cairo" project. The plan aims to improve the quality of life and enhance urban planning. It also seeks to balance development and environmental conservation. The Governor emphasized that the plan is not limited to increasing the number of trees or green spaces but aims to create a comprehensive system for urban planning and coordination.
The Governor added that the plan takes into account the efficient use of water and the reduction of operating and maintenance costs. It also aims to reuse vacant and unutilized areas to ensure the sustainability of afforestation works. The ultimate goal is to transition from viewing afforestation as a decorative element to considering it an essential part of Cairo's environmental and urban infrastructure.

He also emphasized the need for coordination between concerned authorities and the follow-up of implementation rates.
