The Egyptian poultry industry, a cornerstone of the country's food security and economy, has seen a significant drop in prices on Sunday, September 20, 2026. According to Abdelaziz El-Sayed, head of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce's poultry division, poultry prices have decreased by around 5 EGP, with white chicken selling for 66-67 EGP per kilo at farms. This development is crucial for the country's 3.5 million citizens who rely on the sector for employment, either directly or indirectly.
The Egyptian government has been working to support small and large-scale breeders, as well as open up new export markets in Arab and African countries, and internationally. This move comes after Egypt was recognized as one of the countries that apply the isolated poultry farm system, in line with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) regulations. The sector has seen significant growth, with white chicken production increasing to 1.6 billion birds, up from 1.4 billion birds last year, representing a 14% growth rate.
The Ministry of Agriculture is providing easy financing for breeders, in collaboration with the National Bank of Egypt and the Egyptian Agricultural Bank, to support the purchase of production necessities such as feed, chicks, and veterinary medicines. Additionally, the ministry is financing the development of breeding rooms, converting them from open to closed systems, which is expected to increase production efficiency and economic returns.
The prices of local and Saso chickens have also decreased, selling for 125-130 EGP and 125 EGP, respectively. According to the data, the prices of chickens on the Cairo Stock Exchange vary depending on the region, ranging from 85-90 EGP per kilo. The Egyptian poultry sector comprises over 27,000 diverse farms, including those producing table eggs, broiler chickens, parent chickens, and companies specializing in producing parent and grandparent chickens.
The general poultry stock exchange prices have dropped to 67 EGP per kilo for white chickens, and the sector is working to quickly open new markets to absorb the local production surplus. The Saso chicken price on the general stock exchange is 119 EGP per kilo, while the price of white parent chickens is 70 EGP per kilo at the farm.
On the Mohamed Adel stock exchange, the price of white chickens is 66 EGP, and the sector has seen unprecedented investment and production growth in recent years, with investments exceeding 200 billion EGP. The Saso chicken price on the Mohamed Adel stock exchange is 115 EGP per kilo, and the price of white chicks is 22 EGP.
Finally, the price of white chickens on the Munir El-Saka stock exchange has decreased to 67 EGP, with the price of white chicks ranging between 21-22 EGP, and Saso chicks between 19-20 EGP. The price of white parent chickens is 70 EGP per kilo. The sector is expected to continue growing, driven by government support and investments.
