The Egyptian parliament, led by Counselor Hesham Badawi, will resume its public sessions next Monday. One of the key items on the agenda is a discussion of a law proposed by the government to amend certain provisions of the law establishing the Fund for Honoring Martyrs, Victims, Missing Persons, and Injured Persons from War, Terrorism, and Security Operations, as well as their families. This law, originally enacted in 2018, aims to address financial obstacles that may hinder the delivery of rights to eligible beneficiaries.
The proposed amendments aim to alleviate financial burdens associated with certain services and medical documents. Additionally, the amendments seek to reorganize controls related to compensation for cases of disability and other provisions. These changes align with the state's efforts to honor martyrs and those who have been affected by war, terrorism, and security operations. The goal is to provide comprehensive support to these individuals and their families in various aspects of life, including social, health, and educational areas.
In addition to the law amendments, the parliament will discuss four international agreements. The first agreement is related to a decision by the President of the Republic, No. 260 of 2025. This decision concerns the approval of two agreements with the African Development Bank to implement the third phase of the wastewater treatment plant project in the Yellow Mountain and to finance the necessary technical support for the project.
The second agreement up for discussion is the governmental agreement for the "Sustainable Green Industry" project between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the French Development Agency. This was ratified by Presidential Decree No. 74 of 2026. The project aims to promote sustainable development and green industries in Egypt.
The parliament will also consider two more agreements. One is a grant for the "Water Desalination Using Renewable Energy" project, which is part of the water axis of the "Novi" program's national platform. This grant was approved by Presidential Decree No. 373 of 2026 and is provided by the African Water Facility. The other agreement is a partnership grant between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the French Development Agency. This grant, approved by Presidential Decree No. 391 of 2026, focuses on implementing a technical cooperation project to support the teaching of French as a second foreign language in Egyptian public schools.
These international agreements reflect Egypt's commitment to achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in the areas of water, education, and environmental sustainability. The agreements are expected to bring significant benefits, including improved access to clean water, enhanced educational opportunities, and support for green industries.
The discussion of these law amendments and international agreements in the Egyptian parliament underscores the government's dedication to addressing the needs of its citizens, particularly those who have made sacrifices for the country. It also highlights Egypt's ongoing efforts to engage in international cooperation to support its development objectives.
