Egyptian Health Minister Khalid Abdel Ghaffar recently conducted an inspection of two major healthcare projects in the country. The first project is the construction of Bolak Abu El-Ela Hospital, which began in April 2022 and is expected to be completed by April 2027. The hospital will have a capacity of 220 beds, including 145 for inpatient care, 55 for intensive care, and 20 for nurseries. The project also includes nine operating rooms, 66 outpatient clinics, and 19 dialysis units.
During his inspection, Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the importance of adhering to the project's timeline and quickly bringing the hospital into service to support the healthcare system. He directed the acceleration of work, optimal resource utilization, and removal of any obstacles to ensure the hospital's capabilities are utilized to serve citizens promptly. The minister was accompanied by officials from the Wadi El-Nile company and several ministry leaders.
The second project inspected by Abdel Ghaffar is the Nile Medical City, also known as the Nasser Institute, which is being built on an area of 138,000 square meters. The project has reached a 53% completion rate and is expected to be finished by July 2027. The medical city aims to enhance Egypt's position as a regional hub for medical services and attract patients from various countries, thereby supporting the country's medical tourism industry.
The Nile Medical City project involves the development of various medical facilities, including an increase in the number of beds from 682 to 1702. This includes an increase in inpatient beds from 547 to 1276, intensive care beds from 125 to 331, and pediatric beds from 10 to 95. The project also involves expanding treatment and specialized services, such as increasing kidney dialysis units from 47 to 120 and outpatient clinics from 42 to 100.
Abdel Ghaffar also inspected the progress of several buildings within the medical city, including the 99.53% completed male doctors' residence and the 99.80% completed female doctors' residence. The multi-story garage is 84.10% complete, while the new hospital is 18.50% complete. The minister directed the acceleration of work, especially in the future expansion building, and addressing observations on the female doctors' residence.
Another project aimed at enhancing specialized medical services for children is the construction of the Nile Children's Hospital on an area of approximately 28,400 square meters, with an estimated cost of 1.77 billion pounds. The hospital will have a capacity of 306 beds, including 192 for inpatient care, 65 for intensive care, and 49 for intermediate care.
The projects align with Egypt's efforts to improve its healthcare infrastructure and provide high-quality medical services to citizens. The Ministry of Health and Population is working to enhance the healthcare system, increase the capacity of medical facilities, and provide specialized services to meet the needs of the population.
