The Egyptian government is taking steps to provide land for housing and development projects in South Sinai. According to the Secretary-General of the South Sinai Governorate, Brigadier General Ihab Mohamed Rashad Mekawi, the government is providing land through two main channels. The first channel involves offering integrated residential and agricultural communities, where citizens can obtain a ready-made rural home and five acres of agricultural land.

Mekawi explained that several such communities have been proposed in South Sinai, including those in the cities of Ras Sedr and Tor Sinai. These communities aim to provide citizens with decent housing and encourage agricultural development in the region. The governorate has approved the allocation of hundreds of housing and agricultural opportunities for families and young people in these communities.

The second channel through which the government provides land is through the Ministry of Housing, which is responsible for providing land and units for social housing projects. The Housing and Utilities Directorate in South Sinai is working on surveying and preparing new land for social housing projects, particularly in the framework of the presidential initiative "Housing for All Egyptians".

Mekawi emphasized that the allocation of land and properties in the governorate is subject to the provisions of the Sinai Development Law and the regulatory controls. He also noted that the ownership of land and built properties in Sinai is subject to special conditions related to Egyptian nationality and origin, in accordance with the law.

The government is also focusing on providing ready-made housing units and integrated rural and development communities, rather than small residential plots. This approach is different from that in new cities affiliated with the New Urban Communities Authority, where small residential plots are usually offered for sale.

Mekawi pointed out that the method of disposing of land varies from city to city. In some tourist cities such as Sharm El-Sheikh and Dahab, the allocation is made through a usufruct right only, while in other cities, sale or usufruct can be made according to the nature of the project and the controls.

The government's efforts to provide land for housing and development projects in South Sinai aim to promote urban stability and development in the region. The initiative also seeks to provide citizens with decent housing and encourage economic growth.
