Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty conducted several bilateral talks with his counterparts from Turkey, Iran, and Oman on September 24, in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty discussed bilateral relations and key regional issues with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi.
During his meeting with Hakan Fidan, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of implementing the commitments of the US President's peace plan, ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and engaging in early reconstruction and recovery efforts in Gaza. The two ministers also condemned the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and reaffirmed Egypt's rejection of any plan to displace Palestinians.
Abdelatty and Fidan also discussed the situations in Sudan and Libya. On Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Minister called for preserving the country's unity and sovereignty, supporting the negotiation process, and responding to the aspirations of the Sudanese people. Regarding Libya, Abdelatty stressed the importance of respecting the country's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and called for better coordination of regional and international efforts to achieve a durable political settlement.
In his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Abdelatty reviewed recent regional developments and proposals to reduce tensions and promote de-escalation. Abdelatty emphasized the responsibility of each state in ensuring the freedom of navigation and maritime circulation, and called on Washington and Tehran to resume dialogue and negotiations to end the escalation.
With Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, Abdelatty discussed bilateral relations and key regional developments. The two ministers emphasized the importance of maintaining regular consultations to coordinate their positions on major international issues, particularly with regard to maritime security in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister and his Omani counterpart also discussed the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and the situation in the region. Abdelatty expressed Egypt's rejection of any threat to the security of Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed Egypt's full solidarity with Riyadh in preserving its sovereignty.
