Egyptian Environment Minister, Dr. Manal Awad, recently convened with representatives from the Decision Support Center, affiliated with the Cabinet, to explore the implementation of an institutional memory for the Ministry of Local Development and Environment, and its affiliated agencies, including the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency and the Waste Management Regulatory Authority. This initiative aims to enhance the government's digital transformation by computerizing state operations and procedures.

The meeting, attended by key officials, including Engineer Sherif Abdel Rahim, head of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, and Yasser Abdullah, head of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority, focused on leveraging the experience of the Decision Support Center in implementing institutional memory for various state ministries, agencies, and institutions. This move is expected to feed into the unified government database, facilitating informed decision-making.

Dr. Awad emphasized the significance of establishing an institutional memory for the Ministry and its affiliated agencies, describing it as a vital database that will serve as a link between the Ministry, agencies, and regional branches. This will enable easy access to documents and records, track project implementation, and inform timely decision-making.

The proposed institutional memory is expected to encompass a wide range of information, including projects, assignments, official documents, electronic record-keeping, external relations, internal communication directories, local and international publications, electronic services, meeting minutes, media materials, organizational structures, national plans, strategies, and periodic books.

The Minister stressed the importance of utilizing the service to create a comprehensive database that can be easily accessed at any time. She directed officials to expedite the organizational procedures and develop training programs for employees to effectively use and interact with the institutional memory.

The initiative aligns with Egypt's efforts to accelerate digital transformation and enhance government services. By establishing an institutional memory, the Ministry and its agencies aim to improve data management, streamline processes, and promote informed decision-making.
