The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has announced that its efforts to intensify inspections and control over markets and places where meat and its products are displayed and sold have led to the confiscation of approximately 175 tons of meat products that did not meet health requirements. This was achieved through campaigns conducted by the General Organization for Veterinary Services across various governorates in Egypt during September.

According to the Ministry, these campaigns resulted in the confiscation of 174 tons and 957 kilograms of meat products. Of these, 78,302 kilograms were deemed unfit for human consumption, 44,543 kilograms were fit but did not meet health and veterinary requirements, and 52,112 kilograms were held for further examination. The Ministry also reported that 826 legal reports were filed against violators.

The campaigns were carried out under the directives of Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk to intensify regulatory campaigns and maintain constant coordination with concerned parties. The goal is to protect citizens' health, prevent practices that harm food safety, and ensure that consumers receive safe food products.

Dr. Hamed Al-Aqnass, head of the General Organization for Veterinary Services, stated that the campaigns, which were conducted in collaboration with regulatory agencies, targeted various governorates. The campaigns aimed to control the inspection of markets and outlets where meat and its products are traded and to verify compliance with health and veterinary requirements.

Al-Aqnass further explained that the confiscated quantities included various types of meat and meat products. Some were found to be unfit for consumption, while others did not meet the required health and veterinary standards. The products were confiscated, and the necessary legal actions were taken, including filing reports and holding the products until further inspection by relevant authorities.

The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized its commitment to continuing intensive regulatory campaigns nationwide. The campaigns aim to ensure food safety and protect public health by verifying that meat and its products meet the required standards. The Ministry also called on citizens to purchase meat and its products from approved outlets and trusted stores.

The Ministry urged citizens to be vigilant and report any violations that could threaten public health. This cooperation is crucial in supporting the state's efforts to control food circulation and protect consumers. By working together, the Ministry aims to enhance food safety and maintain public trust in the safety of meat and its products available in the market.
