Egypt is expected to experience a mix of weather conditions, including thunderstorms, strong winds, dust, and morning fog, with relatively high daytime temperatures and cooler nights. According to Dr. Manar Ghanem, a forecaster at the Forecasting and Early Warning Center of Egypt's General Authority for Meteorology, a Red Sea depression and an upper-level low are impacting the country's weather pattern. This will lead to the formation of rain clouds, sometimes resulting in thunderstorms.
The weather forecast warns of a high risk of flash floods in certain regions, particularly central Sinai, the Gulf of Aqaba, and parts of the Red Sea Governorate. Heavy rain may be sufficient to trigger flash flooding, especially in mountainous regions. Areas such as Halayeb, Shalateen, Marsa Alam, and parts of the southern Eastern Desert may also experience heavy rainfall. Ghanem advised people to monitor official weather forecasts and take necessary safety measures.
Temperatures in Egypt are expected to remain relatively high, about 1-2 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages. In Greater Cairo, the temperature is forecast to reach around 30°C during the day, while Luxor and Aswan will see highs of 35°C to 36°C. However, nights and early mornings will be much cooler, with Greater Cairo experiencing minimum temperatures of 19°C to 20°C. Ghanem warned that the significant gap between day and night temperatures should be a concern for people, especially children.
Ghanem advised people not to switch completely to heavy winter clothes, despite the cooler nights. Instead, she recommended wearing light jackets in the early mornings and at night, and lighter clothes during the warmer parts of the day. As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to drop, with daytime highs in Greater Cairo reaching around 26°C to 27°C, and minimum temperatures potentially reaching 16°C to 17°C in some areas.
Windy conditions are forecast for the next two days, especially in western Egypt, the Matrouh desert, and the northwestern coast. Strong winds may cause sand and dust to be raised, affecting visibility in these areas. Ghanem warned that wind activity will persist, with some coastal areas still experiencing the possibility of rain. People living in exposed and dusty areas should monitor local forecasts, especially when driving.
Another weather hazard anticipated during this period is water fog, especially on agricultural roads, highways, and routes close to water bodies. Fog forms in the early morning and can last into the morning, reducing horizontal visibility and making driving conditions hazardous. Drivers are urged to slow down, keep a distance from other vehicles, and obey traffic safety guidelines.
The outlook suggests a mixed autumnal weather pattern in Egypt, with relatively warm afternoons and cooler nights, and localized rain and visibility hazards being the primary concern in the next few days. Ghanem emphasized the need for people to follow daily weather forecasts, especially those living in areas prone to heavy rain, flash floods, strong winds, and thick morning fog.
