Egypt's Law on Regulating Waste Management, numbered 202 of 2020, has vested extensive powers in the regulatory body tasked with overseeing the country's waste management sector. This involves coordinating with various ministries, entities, and local administrative units. The body is also tasked with monitoring the implementation of roles and responsibilities by different stakeholders in the waste management system, as per the law.
The regulatory body has been empowered to determine the geographical scope of municipal solid waste management services and the type of services required, in collaboration with competent administrative entities. Additionally, it is responsible for managing the body's resources, as stated in Article 12 of the law, and ensuring that administrative entities have sufficient financial resources before contracting for services.

This involves setting incentive prices for outputs such as compost, recyclables, and alternative fuels, in coordination with relevant ministries and entities.
The body will also provide technical consultations and recommendations to competent administrative entities and stakeholders in the waste management system. Moreover, it will prepare and review proposals for developing and updating legislation, laws, regulations, standards, and technical rules governing integrated waste management.
The regulatory body will have a range of responsibilities, including providing licenses for practicing activities related to non-hazardous waste management, offering technical support, and setting general requirements and procedures for obtaining such licenses.
