The Egyptian General Information Authority, led by Ambassador Alaa Youssef, has released a book titled "The New Republic," which highlights national projects undertaken in Egypt since 2014. These projects align with a comprehensive strategic vision aimed at creating a sustainable developmental reality. The book examines national projects across key sectors, including transportation, which has witnessed unprecedented growth since 2014.
A significant focus has been placed on developing the transportation network, including roads, high-speed trains, monorails, and ports, to connect the country and foster economic development. Notable projects include the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system connecting Cairo to new cities and the administrative capital, which will eventually link with the high-speed electric train line from Suez to El Alamein and Matruh. Additionally, projects such as the 6th of October monorail and the Alexandria railway station have been undertaken.
The book also highlights the unprecedented infrastructure development in Egypt, particularly in road and bridge construction, with investments exceeding 377 billion Egyptian pounds. Key projects include the first phase of the Central Ring Road, which aims to alleviate congestion on the Cairo ring road. Furthermore, efforts to develop the logistics and transportation network are underway to transform Egypt into a global logistics hub.
In the maritime transport sector, projects aim to create connections between sea and dry ports and logistics centers, in line with international standards. Notable projects include the development of the Hurghada port into an international port and the inauguration of the new Suez Canal, which seeks to increase Egypt's national income and enhance the country's maritime capabilities.
The aviation sector has also seen significant development, with Egyptian airports undergoing upgrades to increase their capacity and efficiency. Projects include the expansion of Hurghada International Airport to accommodate 13 million passengers annually and the development of Sphinx International Airport to reduce pressure on Cairo International Airport.
The information and communications technology (ICT) sector has received substantial support, with investments of $6 billion aimed at developing infrastructure, digitalizing government services, and enhancing digital skills. Key projects include the development of the Digital Knowledge City in the administrative capital and initiatives like "Our Digital Future," which aims to train 250,000 young Egyptians in digital skills.
The tourism and antiquities sector has also undergone a significant transformation, with projects aimed at enhancing Egypt's status as a global tourist destination. Notable projects include the Grand Egyptian Museum, which opened last year, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, which showcases over 50,000 artifacts.
