The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics released a statement on the occasion of World Habitat Day, which aims to highlight the importance of access to suitable housing as a fundamental human right. The statement revealed that a total of 212,000 housing units were completed in Egypt during the 2024/2025 period, with investments amounting to 245.3 billion Egyptian pounds. This represents a significant increase from the 158,900 units completed in 2023/2024, which had investments of 152 billion pounds.
The housing units completed in 2024/2025 were categorized into different types, with economic housing leading the way at 86,500 units, accounting for 40.8% of the total. This was followed by medium housing at 57,000 units, representing 26.9%, and luxury housing at 49,300 units, making up 23.2%. The remaining categories included housing above average at 14,100 units, or 6.7%, and low-cost housing at 5,100 units, or 2.4%.
The public sector, including government, public, and public business sectors, implemented 104,800 housing units in 2024/2025, accounting for 49.4% of the total. Economic housing dominated this sector with 68,500 units, or 65.4%, followed by medium housing at 13,800 units, or 13.2%, and luxury housing at 13,500 units, or 12.8%. Cairo Governorate led the way with 47,600 units, or 45.4%, followed by Giza Governorate with 20,700 units, or 19.8%.
The private sector, on the other hand, implemented 107,200 housing units in 2024/2025, accounting for 50.6% of the total. Medium housing led the way in this sector with 43,200 units, or 40.3%, followed by luxury housing at 35,800 units, or 33.4%, and economic housing at 18,000 units, or 16.8%. Cairo Governorate again led the way with 31,700 units, or 29.6%, followed by Giza Governorate with 24,600 units, or 22.9%.
Several major housing projects were highlighted, including the Social Housing Project (One Million Units), which saw 694,700 units completed, with 67,900 units completed in 2024/2025. The "Sakan Egypt" project, which focuses on medium housing, saw 70,500 units completed, with 7,000 units completed in 2024/2025. Other notable projects include "Tabea Al-Hadith" and "Axis of Medium Housing".
The Egyptian government continues to prioritize housing development, with various projects underway to provide affordable housing options for citizens. The Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities is overseeing several initiatives, including the development of new cities and the provision of low-cost housing units.
