The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their partnership and develop the financial services industry in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the annual Arab Securities Exchanges Conference in Abu Dhabi. EGX was represented by its Chairman, Omar Redwan, while ADX was represented by its CEO, Abdullah Al Naimi.
The MoU aims to expand cooperation and international partnerships, creating a business-friendly environment to attract major and institutional investments to Egypt. Redwan emphasized that this step is strategic, aligning with EGX's plan to enhance cooperation with major financial markets. He highlighted EGX's positive performance indicators, improved liquidity, and trading volume, which provide a solid foundation for expanding cross-border partnerships.
Redwan added that EGX is working to establish itself as a leading investment destination in the region by diversifying investment tools and providing innovative digital solutions to facilitate capital movement. He stressed that partnerships with Arab stock exchanges will remain a cornerstone of creating an integrated trading environment that offers growth opportunities for issuers and investors.
The MoU includes studying mechanisms to facilitate cross-border trading channels, opening direct access for investors in both markets, and exploring mutual recognition of brokerage companies. The agreement also involves using advanced digital platforms like "Tabdeel" to enable remote trading and membership.
The cooperation agreement is a significant starting point for creating new financing opportunities by establishing common technical and regulatory rules to support dual listing of companies and investment tools in both Egyptian and UAE markets. This will expand the base of institutional investors and increase liquidity directed to issuers.
The MoU emphasizes the importance of building bridges of cooperation and technical connectivity between the two countries, ensuring the smooth movement of securities in line with international financial security standards. It also focuses on utilizing financial technology solutions to upgrade and modernize trading infrastructure.
Redwan participated in a high-level panel discussion titled "Markets Under Pressure," where he highlighted EGX's resilience and ability to absorb geopolitical shocks, supported by a strong upward trend in trading values, which reached 17.9 trillion pounds by September 2026.
