Egg prices in Egypt have stabilized at 110-120 pounds per carton at the farm level, according to Abdelaziz El-Sayed, head of the Poultry Wealth Committee at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce. This stability comes as the country's poultry sector has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years. The sector has seen significant investments, with the volume of investments exceeding 200 billion pounds.
The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture is working to provide easy financing for breeders in collaboration with the National Bank of Egypt and the Egyptian Agricultural Bank. This financing aims to support the purchase of production necessities such as feed, chicks, medicines, and veterinary vaccines. Additionally, the ministry is financing the development of breeding rooms to improve production efficiency and increase economic returns.
Egypt's egg production has increased to 16 billion eggs, up from 14 billion eggs in the previous year. The production of local poultry has also risen, with around 360 million birds produced, representing a 12% increase. These numbers indicate a thriving poultry sector in Egypt, which is a significant contributor to the country's food security and economy.
The current egg prices for consumers stand at 130 pounds per carton for white eggs. On average, each person in Egypt consumes around 140 eggs per year from local farms. The poultry sector in Egypt comprises over 27,000 diverse farms, including those producing table eggs, broiler chickens, and parent stock.
The price of local eggs is 140 pounds per carton, while the price of red eggs has stabilized at 135 pounds per carton. The sector has also seen improvements in vaccine production, with the country's vaccine production capacity increasing to 2.3 billion doses per year, up from 120 million doses previously.
The poultry sector provides direct and indirect job opportunities for around 3.5 million citizens. The sector is considered one of the main pillars of food security and the national economy. The Ministry of Agriculture is working to accelerate the process of opening new markets to absorb the surplus local production.
The Egyptian government is providing support to small and large producers and working to open new export markets in Arab, African, and international countries. This comes after Egypt was approved as one of the countries that apply the system of isolated poultry farms according to the regulations of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
