The local unit of the city of Ezbet El-Berg in Damietta, in cooperation with the Equal Opportunities Unit of the Damietta Governorate, organized a recreational and training event on the Palm Beach. The event included drawing and coloring activities on the sand, with the participation of people with disabilities and their families. The goal was to develop their sensory, motor, and cognitive skills and promote their integration into community activities.
The event was part of the "I am a lifelong learner" initiative and activities of the Equal Opportunities Unit in Damietta Governorate, under the auspices of Damietta Governor Dr. Hussam El-Din Fouzi and the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Fouzi, Deputy Governor of Damietta, and Mervat Nabil, Director of the Equal Opportunities Unit in the governorate. The event aimed to provide an opportunity for people with disabilities to express themselves and interact with their surroundings.
The event included a range of artistic activities using sand and colors, allowing children to express themselves and practice their skills in an open environment that combines nature and fun. The activities targeted the development of visual-motor coordination by training children to link eye movement and hand movement while drawing and coloring. This helps improve control of fine movements, increase focus and attention, and develop sensory and cognitive skills.
Ali El-Bayomi, head of Ezbet El-Berg city, said that the event comes within the framework of providing diverse activities for people with disabilities that combine entertainment and capacity building. He emphasized the importance of providing open spaces that help children participate, interact, and practice activities naturally, supporting their integration into society and enhancing their self-confidence.
The event also aimed to enhance communication and social interaction skills by involving children in a group activity outside the traditional training framework. This supports the concept of integration and gives them an opportunity to interact with others in an open and different environment. The activities focused on enhancing self-confidence, independence, and the sense of achievement by giving each child the opportunity to produce a work of art that expresses their ideas and abilities.
Amira Khalaf, a special education trainer in the city, said that drawing and coloring on sand is not just a recreational activity but also a means of developing a range of skills for children with disabilities. She explained that artistic and manual activities help improve visual-motor coordination, enhance focus and attention, and develop sensory and cognitive skills. The direct interaction with sand and colors gives children the opportunity to use their senses, experiment, choose, and express their ideas.
The event is part of the activities provided by the Women's Friendly City in Ezbet El-Berg to support people with disabilities and their families, which not only includes training and rehabilitation but also extends to recreational and community activities that contribute to improving the quality of life and supporting participation and integration.
