The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) in Egypt has partnered with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) Egypt to launch a new initiative. This initiative aims to promote the integration of people with disabilities in the communications and information technology sector. The goal is to develop practical solutions that help companies provide more inclusive work environments and tap into a larger pool of talent and skills.
The initiative brings together 14 local and international companies, experts, specialists, and people with disabilities. The objective is to exchange experiences, identify challenges, and develop applicable solutions. The initiative will also develop a guide for integrating people with disabilities in the communications and information technology sector. This guide, known as the ICT Inclusion Playbook, will serve as a practical framework for companies.
Some of the participating companies include Brightskies, CrocoIT, DVIT, DXC, Fingerprint, Foundever, IBM, Microsoft, NTG, Orange Business, Raya IT, Sutherland, VOIS, and Xceed. Fit for Life is the main consultant for the initiative, managing workshops and transforming the experiences of companies and participants into applicable tools and practices.
The guide will cover areas such as employment, work environment, capacity building, and impact measurement. It will also include indicators for evaluation and a gradual roadmap. The guide is expected to be made available on ITIDA's website and shared with companies and institutions in the communications and information technology sector.
According to Ahmed Zaher, CEO of ITIDA, equal opportunities and social responsibility are essential for empowering people with disabilities to participate in the labor market. He noted that integration not only has a social dimension but also allows the technology sector to expand its talent base and benefit from new capabilities.
The initiative is part of the develoPPP program, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The goal is to develop practical solutions that promote the integration of people with disabilities in the labor market and digital economy.
The initiative includes 15 workshops and interactive sessions to develop the guide. The guide will provide a practical reference for companies to develop integration practices. This initiative aims to create more job opportunities for people with disabilities in the technology sector.
