Widows across the three senatorial districts of Delta State have pledged their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 elections. The women made the pledge at the flag-off of the Widows Support Group for Tinubu/Oborevwori at the City Boys Secretariat, Asaba. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Senior Policy Adviser and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon.
Speaking at the event, Funkekeme Solomon charged the women to take the message of the Renewed Hope and MORE agendas to their communities. He urged them to understand government policies and programmes before communicating them to voters, emphasizing the importance of responsible mobilization. Solomon also stressed that prayer must be accompanied by action, encouraging the women to engage citizens in various settings, including churches, markets, and community meetings.
Chief Adviser to the Governor, Chief Ighoyota Amori, expressed confidence that the support of women across the state would significantly contribute to the APC's victory in the 2027 elections. He urged the women to enroll in the state's free contributory healthcare scheme for widows to improve their well-being. General Manager of the Delta State Social Investment Programme, Chief Henry Sakpra, commended the initiative and urged the women to mobilize support for all APC candidates across the state.
The Director-General of the group, Chief Isioma Okonta, said the initiative was inspired by the Oborevwori administration's widows welfare programme, which has been providing monthly stipends to 10,000 widows across the 25 local government areas since its launch on August 18, 2025. Okonta said the beneficiaries decided to reciprocate the support by becoming ambassadors of the Renewed Hope and MORE agendas and mobilizing votes for Tinubu, Oborevwori, and other APC candidates in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs. Cynthia Umukoro (Delta Central), Mrs. Joy Egbo (Delta South), and Mrs. Angela Osita (Delta North) pledged their commitment to the group's objectives. The women also offered prayers for Governor Oborevwori, Delta State, and Nigeria. The event featured the inauguration of the state executive committee, which includes Chief Isioma Okonta as Director-General and other officials.
